Jyothika plays the role of Mammootty's estranged wife in Kaathal – The Core. The film also stars Joji John, Jisshu Sengupta and Muthumani among others.
Actor Jyothika is quite upbeat about her upcoming movie Kaathal – The Core, which marks her comeback in Malayalam cinema after a long gap. She is also promoting the film with Malayalam superstar Mammootty and she can't help but heap praises on her co-star, who is a living example of the classic adage - age is just a number.
"I am very proud to work with Mammootty Kampany. Only last week I saw Kannur Squad. The kind of films they are making is outstanding," said Jyothika.
In addition to playing the lead role, Mammootty has also bankrolled the project under his home banner Mammootty Kampany. His banner is fast gaining a reputation for delivering modern-day classics after the recent critical hits like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Kannur Squad.

Jyothika praised Mammootty for his appetite to push boundaries in terms of acting and storytelling. "If I speak frankly, I have worked with many heroes. But, there is something very special about him. I am saying it with all honesty and not because I am sitting next to him. He can be very relaxed. He's ready to experiment and he's doing different types of films. I think experimenting (with films) after reaching this stage is a true mark of a hero," she added.
In Kaathal – The Core, Mammootty is said to be playing the role of a closeted homosexual. He's probably the first superstar of his stature in South India to take on such an unconventional character.
Meanwhile, Jyothika also revealed Suriya's reaction to her onscreen collaboration with Mammootty. "Suriya is very happy. He's always asking to work with Mammootty sir, but he is not doing a film with him. So he's happy, at least I am working with him. Suriya likes Mammootty sir very much," she said.
