Cumberbatch will executive produce the film with Dern and Jayme Lemons under the banners of Jaywalker Pictures, and Marnie Podos
One of the recent big movies to be announced is Morning. The film, directed by Justin Kurzel, will have a stellar cast that includes Oscar and BAFTA winner Laura Dern, Noah Jupe, and Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner Benedict Cumberbatch in a supporting role. Cumberbatch will also be executive producing the upcoming sci-fi feature.
The film is reportedly set in the near future where people can pop up a pill and do away with the need to sleep. An artificial sun helps them to stay up, living and working with continued sunlight. But as a young generation is growing up deprived of sleep, will they rebel and reclaim their dreams is what the film is about.
The film will be distributed internationally by HanWay Films. Written by Sam Steiner, the film is being produced by Leah Clarke, head of Adam Ackland’s SunnyMarch. Cumberbatch will executive produce the film with Dern and Jayme Lemons under the banners of Jaywalker Pictures, and Marnie Podos. The cinematography for the film will be by Adam Arkapaw, known for The King, Assassin’s Creed, Macbeth, and True Detective. The costumes will be by BAFTA Award-nominated designer Alice Babidge. The film will mark the reunion of Kurzel with the cinematographer whom he has worked with on Macbeth and Assassin’s Creed. It also marks the collaboration of the costume designer Babidge with the filmmaker after Nitram.
Kurzel’s last project was Nitram which was nominated for Palme d’Or. Caleb Landry Jones who played the lead role in the feature won the Best Actor award at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. Alongside Morning, Kurzel is also working on a horror drama Banquet, which is being directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.
Meanwhile, Cumberbatch was last seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home with Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. He is also awaiting the release of his next Marvel movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
