JugJugg Jeeyo: Varun Dhawan confirms that Nach Punjaban rights has been brought; praises singer Abrar Ul Haq

JugJugg Jeeyo, the family entertainer starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor in the lead, is set for its theatrical release on Friday. Actor Varun Dhawan has now commented on the song, Nach Punjaban, which had caused controversy a few weeks ago, after singer Abrar Ul Haq accused maker Karan Johar for using it without acquiring its rights.

“I want to say to Abrar that he sung the song so well, the original one. It is amazing, outstanding and we loved it. Our music company, they bought the rights and now our song is doing so well so thank you,” Dhawan said while talking to Bollywood Hungama.

The song first caused controversy after its singer, Abrar Ul Haq took to Twitter to claim that Karan Johar and T-Series was using the number without having acquired its rights, and that he is willing to take legal action.

He said that he has not sold the rights to the song to any Indian movie and that he was willing to go to court to claim damages. He also pointed out that it was his sixth song that was being copied and that producers like Johar should not be doing this.

T-Series was quick to reply, confirming on Twitter that all the songs rights will be included across platforms when the song is released and that its copyright exclusively vests with Moviebox Records Label.

The issue took center stage on Twitter, with the keyword trending when the issue first came to light. Since, a number of people, including some Hindi stars have been using the song’s hook step for promoting the movie.

Directed by Raj Mehta, the movie is backed by Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios. Also starring Manish Paul and Prajakta Koli, the movie hits theatres on June 24.
