He is identified as the ‘industry’ in Tollywood. Prosenjit Chatterjee gave his 100% to Bengali cinema for the last three decades. He worked in several Hindi films at the beginning of his career but never shifted his base to Mumbai.

Now, his Jubilee is recently dropped on Prime Video. At the age of 61, Bumbada, aka Prosenjit, made his debut on the web with this series and how! He participated in Jubilee’s promotion and answered different questions.

Why did he not make a career in Bollywood when he has the opportunity? Prosenjit told the Indian Express that there has always been a lack of openings for regional actors. “I think all regional actors… it’s not like we come to Mumbai and get a lot of work. I last worked in Shanghai, which was a long time now,” he said.

However, Prosenjit admitted that time has changed. “Right now, there is a lot of talent and so many doors have opened. New platforms have come up and everyone is getting a lot of exposure. Language is not an issue anymore. It’s a great time for the younger generation. With this show too, we are trying to do something very unique,” the actor added.

Prosenjit worked in some Hindi films like Andhiya, Birta, and Sone Ki Janjeer, at the beginning of his career. But he was not ready to leave the Bengali industry and settle in Mumbai. He admitted that he turned down the offer of Maine Pyar Kiya. Salman Khan bagged the role and became a superstar.

Prosenjit is not seen in commercial movies for the last decade. He could not say no to Vikramaditya Motwane because he was attracted to the character of Srikanta Roy in Jubilee. The story is set in the 50s Hindi film industry. But that was very different from today. The actor said, “During that time, a star is made by the studios and the theatres. Nowadays, directors and producers find out about the stars. I think that the technicians who I worked with have contributed to my success.”

Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Siddhartha Gupta, Nandish Sandhu, and Ram Kapoor acted in Jubilee. How are the stories behind the glamour in the film world? This period drama portrays the legends and the history through this period piece. It shows love, relationship turmoils, efforts to stay in the limelight, jealousy, competition, and efforts to make one's own identity--all these are shown in Jubilee. The first five episodes are released on Friday, and the next five will be released on 14 April.
