Actor Jonny Miller to step into the shoes of former British Prime Minister John Major

A popular historical drama, The Crown has been an audience’s favourite since its inception in 2016. It chronicles the tale of the British royal family – the love, the hate, the politics and behind-the-scenes conspiracies. As the show continues to grow season after season, fresh faces are added to the cast to portray the new characters being added to the storyline.

The newest addition to the team is actor Jonny Lee Miller, who will be playing British Prime Minister John Major, who led the country from 1990 to 1997. The series’ official social media handles made this announcement. He has some large shoes to fill as his predecessor Gillian Anderson, who played the role of Margaret Thatcher in S4 won a Golden Globe for her performance.

Jonny is known for his portrayal in Trainspotting and Elementary, and is expected to flesh out the complex character of the former Prime Minister.

Staying true to its tradition of getting the cast of the show replaced after every two seasons, The Crown will see Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip and Dominic West as Prince Charles of Wales.

With new twists and turns, it will be intriguing to see how the plot adjusts itself to the progressing times. It is likely to cover the period of 1990s, and has the possibility of including Princess Diana’s death. It is scheduled to begin filming next month, and won’t return for season 5 before 2022.
