Jonathan Majors was introduced as Kang The Conqueror in Loki Season 1 and is now fired after being found guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend
Just when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was back in the headlines for its commendable efforts in shaping quality content, it turns out an old ghost is back to bite the studio. As per the latest updates, Jonathan Majors has been proven guilty by the court of law of the charges filed against him by his former girlfriend. As a result, Marvel has officially fired Kang from their Multiverse Saga. But what does the future now look like? Reports say the studio was already prepared, and below is the overview.
What Exactly Happened?
Jonathan Majors met movement coach Grace Jabbari on the sets of Ant-Man And The Wasp Quantumania, in which he played Kang The Conqueror for the second time in the MCU and first and only in the films. In March, the Majors hit Jabbari in the face, twisted her arm, and even fractured her finger in a chauffeured car. He was then charged with assault in the third degree with intent to cause physical injury and aggravated harassment.
The hearings revealed that he was even engaged in cruel and manipulative patterns of psychological and physical abuse” towards Jabbari even before the March incident that brought the entire row to light. Jabbari was accused of shaping a fantasy to bring Majors down, as he was on a career high exactly when the complaint was filed. He was being hailed for playing Kang in the MCU and also appreciated for his performance in Creed lll.
What Did The Court Say?
According to ABC News, the Manhattan jury has found Jonathan Majors guilty of one misdemeanor assault charge and one harassment violation referring to the incident that occurred in March when he assaulted his former girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The court has now set February 6, 2024, as the day to announce the sentence. The reports claim that he might get a year’s punishment in jail, or there are also possibilities of probation or other non-jail sentences.
What Did His Employers Do?
Jonathan Majors was heavily involved with Marvel Studios before the row came to light. He was their big villain for the Multiverse Saga, Kang The Conqueror. He had an entire Avengers film planned around him, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. In this case, the biggest question all this time was: What will the studio now do about this entire mess?
Well, the latest reports have confirmed that Disney-led Marvel has officially fired Jonathan Majors from his role as Kang and the studio will not have any tie with the actor going further.
What Is The New Update?
But it does seem like the studio was always prepared for this verdict and had taken some very major steps beforehand. If the new scoop from scooper Jeff Sneider is to go by, the studio has already started to refer to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as Avengers 5. While no one knows what the studio is planning to do or at what level the Multiverse Saga will be altered, the closest option is to divide Secret Wars into two films.
Jeff’s source also said, "Secret Wars is shaping up to be a giant five-hour movie with a year-long intermission.” In this case, Avengers: Secret Wars Part 1 and Part 2 will make more sense. However, it was earlier reported that The Kang Dynasty was planned to go on floors in March 2024 in the UK. However, the studio would have kept Jonathan Majors as Kang if we were not found guilty.
But things are not the same now. There is no update on whether the studio is now finding a new Kang or a new big villain altogether. The chances of Doctor Doom replacing him were shunned recently. However, now with this new development, you never know what the studio will opt for. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was set to hit the big screen on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for May 7, 2027.
