Saswata has played Ritwik Ghatak in Meghe Dhaka Tara and Uttam Kumar in Achena Uttam
August 26 is the birthday of the stalwart of Bengali film, Bhanu Bandyopadhyay. Saswata Chatterjee delivered a special surprise on this day. It has been reported that he will be playing Bhanu Bandyopadhyay in a new film, whose poster was released on Saturday.
Saswata Chatterjee has previously played several Bengali actors and directors. He played Ritwik Ghatak in Meghe Dhaka Tara and Uttam Kumar in Achena Uttam. Now he will be Bhanu Bandyopadhyay in the film Jomaloye Jibonto Bhanu.
Does the name remind you of something? It must. It takes a cue from Bhanu Bandyopadhyay’s iconic film – Jomaloye Jibonto Manush. In the present film's poster, Saswata Chatterjee was seen as Bhanu with a broad forehead, wearing a kurta and dhoti beside a bicycle. A cat is sitting by his side.
The film, presented by Burima Chitram, is directed by Dr. Krishnendu Chatterjee and produced by Suman Kumar Das.
Under the poster, the caption was: “Today is that man’s birthday who has been residing in Bengali people’s hearts for decades, and will continue doing so. He gained immortality through Bengali Cinema. He is the respected Bhanu Bandyopadhyay. Jomaloye Jibonto Bhanu is a tribute to him.” The film will be released this winter.
Jomaloye Jibonto Manush was released in 1958. But the present film is not a sequel, nor is it the biopic of the actor. Then what is it? This has been made on Bhanu Bandyopadhyay's works, where small pieces of his best films will be shown.
In the poster-releasing ceremony, Bhanu’s son Goutam Bandyopadhyay, and daughter Basabi Bandyopadhyay Ghatak were present.
Somnath Kundu did the makeup for this film. Raja Narayan Deb is the composer.
