John Abraham – on his 51st birthday – requests Central Government to act against animal cruelty

John Abraham, who is celebrating his 51st birthday today, has requested the Central Government to take a strong stand against those who practice animal cruelty.

Bollywood actor John Abraham is celebrating his 51st birthday today. Known for his charming heroic persona, he is a recipient of a National Film Award and other prestigious awards. This year, he essayed the role of an antagonist in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan – which minted over Rs 1,000 crores at the box office globally. Clearly, any word spoken by the actor generates buzz on the internet. This evening, on the occasion of his birthday, he requested the Central Government to take strong action against those who practice animal cruelty.

Expressing his concern on the issue of animal cruelty, John Abraham took to the microblogging site X and wrote, “Very worried about this! The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita (BNS), 2023 lacks a provision against sexual abuse of animals. Honourable @AmitShah ji, please ensure the same safeguard that animals get from IPC Sec 377. #StopAnimalRape @AmitShahOffice @PIBHomeAffairs”

Notably, this comment by John Abraham comes a day after PETA India expressed its worry over the revised BNS Bill 2023's failure on animal abuse.

John Abraham feels he is an animal lover and takes an interest in PETA and Habitat for Humanity.

What is BNS Bill 2023?

The Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 Bill has sparked apprehension among animal rights activists in India. Their concern stems from the omission of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) without the incorporation of any alternative provisions to address sexual offenses against animals.

Section 377 currently states, "Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman, or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to a fine."
