Both Jigra and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video released on the big screen on October 11, and now we stand on day 2 looking at the first day box office.
The return of big box office clashes in Bollywood feels like things are truly back to normal. Recently, we saw three massive movies—Vedaa Stree 2, and Khel Khel Mein—go head-to-head. While Rajkummar Rao emerged as the winner in that clash, it seems he's not ready to slow down. In less than two months since the release of Stree 2 with Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar has entered yet another box office battle. His film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (VVKWWV) has released and is clashing with Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt and backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Early box office numbers suggest that Rao is once again in the lead, as VVKWWV has edged out Jigra on the first day by a small margin.
For those unfamiliar, Jigra is written and directed by Vasan Bala and stars Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina. On the other hand, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is written and directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri. Both films have been generating buzz for quite some time. While Jigra heavily focused on promotions, VVKWWV also faced its share of controversies. Now that both movies have hit the big screen, here’s how they performed at the domestic box office.
Alia Bhatt’s Jigra had a decent amount of anticipation leading up to its release, as the movie revolves around a prison break where a sister tries to save her brother from being electrocuted for a crime he didn’t commit. However, the film received a lukewarm response on its opening day. According to Sacnilk, Jigra earned Rs. 4.25 crore at the domestic box office on day one, a modest figure when compared to other successful films this year. It will be interesting to see if the film picks up momentum, especially since today is Dussehra, and the weekend could bring in more viewers.

Surprisingly, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is currently leading the race, albeit by a small margin. The movie earned Rs. 5 crore net in India on its first day, putting it ahead of Jigra. However, even with this lead, the Rajkummar Rao starrer is not in the clear, as this number is still not very strong. The film has been surrounded by controversies and extensive social media discussions, and the reviews have not been very favorable. Its success might depend on Jigra’s performance over the weekend.
This means that both films face a crucial test over the next couple of days, especially with the Dussehra holiday and the weekend potentially boosting ticket sales. The outcome could shift dramatically, depending on how audiences respond. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on these films and everything else in the world of streaming and cinema.
