Divya Khossla on similarities between Savi and Jigra

Divya Khossla earlier reacted to the similarities between her film Savi and Alia Bhatt’s Jigra. She acknowledged the connection but said each film has its own path and is grateful she explored the genre first.

Meanwhile, Savi, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor, is about a housewife trying to break her husband out of a high-security prison in England, inspired by the Savitri and Satyavan story. On the other hand, in Jigra, Alia Bhatt’s character plans a jailbreak to rescue her brother from prison.

Divya told IANS, “Yes, I too have been getting this question a lot from the media, the industry, and the trade that ‘Savi’ and ‘Jigra’ are seeming very similar the plot and everything. Well, I would just like to say that with the love of the audience and the grace of God that ‘Savi’ has proved its worth totally on its own merits. We had a very good run in theatres and OTT too and we topped the charts in various countries. So, I’m just thankful for all the love."

She also added that their film, Savi was based on jailbreak– how a simple housewife attempts a jailbreak to get her husband out of prison, and even though Jigra may be similar to it, she feels every film has its own journey to it and sometimes two production houses can make a film on a similar plot.

Meanwhile, an expert from OTTPlay reviewed Jigra and stated, "Jigra is a story told through a unique lens, even if it has some predictable notes. Vasan Bala crafts a love letter to Amitabh Bachchan’s Angry Young Man legacy and does it well, but he restrains himself from injecting more of his signature quirk into it."
