In early July, actor Praveen Tej’s first action-packed commercial film, Jigar released in theatres. The film by Suri Kunder, set in a coastal town, had Praveen as the right-hand man and muscle of a local businessman, who leaves his life of violence behind, only to be drawn right back into it.

The film’s theatrical journey was not great as it released while the Kannada industry was still experiencing a major slump with audiences all but giving up on theatre outings. Praveen was hopeful that audiences would support content-driven films like Jigar, so that producers would continue to invest in the business of cinema. That didn’t help the film’s prospects, which also failed to get an OTT deal.

The makers have now decided to make the film available to audiences nevertheless and have released it on SRS Media Vision’s YouTube channel. Jigar also stars Vijesh, Yash Shetty, Dharmanna Kadur, Loki, Vijayshree Kalburgi and is a film that Praveen took up to get a break from the romantic dramas he’d been doing until then.

Praveen Tej heads to Mangaluru for full-fledged commercial entertainer called Jigar

While Jigar establishes that Praveen can pack a mean punch, the film also has a love story. Prior to the release, Praveen had said that what drew him to the film was that it offered him a character-driven story. In fact, the actor took up the film because it blended action in a love story and allowed him to dabble with both, while also allowing him to remain in his comfort zone.

Praveen had been clear that he could not shoulder a full-fledged commercial film just yet, as he doesn’t have the fan base to support the same. Jigar, in that sense, would give him the opportunity to test waters in the genre. The actor, who was also seen in this year’s medical thriller O2, is yet to announce a new signing.
