Jhund, directed by Nagraj Manjule, will release in theatres on March 4.
Amitabh Bachchan is back in the role of Vijay in his upcoming movie, Jhund, the trailer of which is now out. Big B plays the role of a football coach in the film. He trains people from the slums and their chemistry is beautifully shown in the trailer.
We see the rowdy crowd from the slums who believe in ‘dadagiri’ and have a lot of passion in them which they use in anything other than sports. However, as Amitabh Bachchan’s Vijay enters their life and sees potential in these people, he gives them a ball to play with. The rest becomes history.
Watch the trailer here:
Not just the kids, the trailer also shows how the slum areas function. You see that even the adults here think about selling ganja and weed rather than seeing someone as a person who has come to free them of the shackles they are bound in and the disrespect they have received all their life.
The slum kids’ behaviour also becomes hilarious as they don’t even understand what a whistle indicates. “Idhar kya khazaana ghaada hai kya?,” one of the kids ask, unable to interpret how football works.
The first time when Vijay and the kids bond is when Vijay is heard telling someone that no matter how the slum kids behave, they have a good heart. Soon after, we see how they are united and become a ‘jhund’ (crowd) like the title suggests. Some more time into the trailer, you realize how Vijay is fighting to get the slum kids into his college but is not receiving support in return.
The best about this team that comes together under Vijay, is that it has both men and women despite the era it is set in. You get to see them play as equals, even though, obviously the ratio is still uneven.
This is not the first time when Amitabh Bachchan is playing a character named Vijay. He had an iconic role in Agneepath, who was named Viajy Dinanath Chauhan. It was one of Big B's career definining roles and thus, the name is often associated with Bachchan senior and his voice.
The Nagraj Manjule directorial also sees Sairat stars Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru in pivotal roles. It is inspired from the life of NGO Slum Soccer founder Vijay Barse. The film will release in theatres on March 4.
