Jhund: Director Nagraj Manjule opens up about difficulties in getting Amitabh Bachchan starrer onto screens

The film was released in theatres on March 4.

Getting Jhund to the big screen proved to be a long and arduous journey for Nagraj Manjule. But it finally bore fruit, and the filmmaker was on the receiving end of praise for his directorial, which starred Amitabh Bachchan. The director recently opened up about the struggles involved in making the sports drama film.

In a statement, the director said “There's no project or work in life which doesn't come with difficulties. We had some issues while filming "Jhund" but I believe it was all part of the process”. But everything seemed to have worked out for Manjule in the end, as he believed that the film was completed in the way he had envisioned it. He also expressed his elation at the film’s OTT release on ZEE5 as well, talking about how the film will be seen by millions of viewers around the world.

The sports drama had witnessed its fair share of difficulties during the course of filming and even after its wrap. It had started filming in Nagpur in 2018, wrapping up the shoot in 2019. Although it aimed for a 2020 release, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the makers to postpone its release yet again.

And if the technical difficulties were not enough, the film was also the subject of a legal tangle, wherein a filmmaker accused the makers of copyright infringement. The case had further delayed the film’s OTT release after its theatrical release on March 4.

The sports drama, which marks Manjule’s first Hindi directorial, is based on the life of social worker Vijay Barse. Vijay had founded the non-profit organisation Slum Soccer, a football club for underprivileged children who have an interest in the sport.

Jhund will be available for streaming on ZEE5, tomorrow, on May 6.
