Jersey: Shahid Kapoor says working with father Pankaj Kapur helped him ‘tremendously’

Shahid Kapoor’s sports drama, Jersey, is ever so close to its long-awaited theatrical release. The actor has now opened up about the pressures of working on the movie and also working with his father, Pankaj Kapur.

“Roles like Arjun and Kabir are so challenging, and there’s pressure of not letting the original film down. Then there’s your dad. So there was a lot to deal with. But having him in all those scenes helped tremendously.”

He added that you end up giving it your best as an actor and that it is always amazing to learn from his father.

Shahid Kapoor plays an ageing cricketer who tries to make a return to the game and make the international team after promising his son a signed jersey. Panjaj Kapur plays Arjun’s (Shahid) cricket coach in the movie.

The sports drama is the Hindi remake of the hit Telugu film of the same name that came out in 2019. Starring Nani and Shraddha Srinath, the movie became a fan-favourite following its release.

Gowtam Tinnanuri, who directed the Telugu film, returns as the scribe and director for the Hindi remake as well. The first reviews of the movie are out, and has been received positively.

“Director Gowtam Tinnanuri strikes the right chord by remaking his film in Hindi. In these times when we are filled with so much heavy content on both the big screen and OTT, Jersey comes as a breather. Well, sometimes all you need is some drama in your life and this Shahid Kapoor-starrer is here for it.” reads the movie’s review on OTTplay.

The film, which also stars Mrunal Thakur, Ronit Kamra, Geetika Mehandru and Shishir Sharma, is set to hit theatres on April 22.
