A still from The Great Indian Kitchen
Malayalam-language drama The Great Indian Kitchen directed by Jeo Baby, will reportedly have a Hindi remake, produced by Harman Baweja and Vicky Bahri.
Pinkvilla writes that multiple producers were interested in acquiring the remake rights to the film but ultimately Baweja and Bahri beat them to it. The film will likely go on floors in mid-2022.
A source told the entertainment portal that the team is "working closely to adapt the story as per Hindi sensibilities."
The remake will reportedly be directed by Arati Kadav, known for the indie sci-fi film Cargo starring Vikrant Massey.
Pinkvilla mentions that the makers are in talks with "credible female actors of the Hindi film industry" to play the lead.
In The Great Indian Kitchen Nimisha Sajayan played a newlywed woman who is forced to adhere to the conservative and patriarchal expectations imposed on her by her husband and in-laws. The film was widely appreciated and went on to win Kerala State Awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Sound Design last year.
The film is also being adapted for the Tamil-speaking audience with Aishwarya Rajesh and Rahul Ravindran in the lead.
The Great Indian Kitchen is available to watch online on Neestream and Amazon Prime Video.
