Netflix has roped in writer Jeb Stuart, known for his work on Die Hard and The Fugitive, to create the script for its live-action version of the popular game.
Netflix is collaborating with gaming company Ubisoft to develop a live action series based on the latter’s popular video game, Assassin’s Creed. Netflix has roped in noted writer Jeb Stuart to write the script for the series. Jeb Stuart is best known for his work on blockbuster movies such as Die Hard and Harrison Ford-starrer The Fugitive. He most recently created Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla, the sequel to the Vikings series. He also penned Netflix’s limited series The Liberator
The Assassin's Creed Netflix series will be executive produced by Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik of Ubisoft Film & Television. The project has been under development at Netflix since 2020 as part of a content deal with Ubisoft to develop live-action, animated and anime series based on their international best selling video game franchise.
The Assassin's Creed franchise was launched in 2007 and has since sold more than 155 million games worldwide. It depicts an ancient world struggle between the Assassins who fight for peace with free will and power-hunger rivals Templars, who desire peace through order. The game weaves its drama through historical events and figures. The video game series took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.
The video game was previously adapted for a 2016 movie, starring actors Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the lead. However, that movie proved to be a major critical and commercial disappointment. Later, in 2017, Ubisoft signaled its plans for an Assassin’s Creed TV series which eventually went to Netflix.
