The thriller, which also has Namitha Pramod and Jaffer Idukki in pivotal roles, will mark Jayasurya’s third direct-to-OTT release
Jayasurya’s Eesho has long been rumoured to be an OTT release. However, last week details about the makers finally locking a deal with the streaming platform emerged, along with the record price at which the Nadirshah directorial’s OTT rights were sold.
The film, which will mark Jayasurya’s third direct-to-OTT release after Sufiyum Sujatayum and Sunny, will premiere on Sony LIV. Eesho’s OTT rights were bought by the streaming service for a record price that is the highest ever for a Jayasurya-starrer, revealed the film’s producer Arun Narayan.
Incidentally, Eesho also marks Nadirshah’s second OTT release with his previous movie Kesu Ee Veedinte Nathan also dropping directly on Disney+ Hotstar. The Dileep-starrer’s OTT and satellite rights were reportedly sold at Rs 37 crore.
The movie also marks the second collaboration between Jayasurya and Nadirshah after the latter’s debut movie Amar Akbar Antony. “The reason we opted for Jayasurya to play the lead in this film was the support that he had shown during the making of Amar Akbar Antony. His dedication to get into the skin of the characters stands apart. He is ready to go to any lengths to be the character and fully supports the director’s vision,” said Nadirshah in an earlier interview to OTTplay.
Meanwhile, Sony LIV has been on a signing spree in Malayalam and have been releasing at least one new film in the language every month since September. Majority of the Malayalam releases on the platform have also been lauded by the critics and viewers alike. Some of the recent releases include Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute, Saiju Kurup’s Antakshari, Shane Nigam’s Bhoothakaalam and Jeo Baby’s anthology Freedom Fight.
The platform’s next big release will be Mammootty and Parvathy Thiruvothu’s intense crime drama-thriller Puzhu, which is expected to begin streaming from May. The film will be Mammootty’s first direct-to-OTT release.
