Very often, when a popular actor works in another industry, the attempt is to try and dub in his voice, as audiences might be familiar with how he sounds. It also lends more character and authenticity to the role. Actor Jayaram, who is a renowned name in Malayalam and Tamil cinema had the option of getting someone else to dub for him for his Kannada film debut Ghost, but he chose to do it himself, which he is immensely happy and proud of. What makes it special is that Jayaram made the effort, even though at the time he signed up for Ghost, it was not the pan-India film with immense buzz around it.

Exclusive! Jayaram on Ghost: The crux of the film revolves around Shivarajkumar and my character

“What I find most thrilling about working on Ghost is that I was able to dub for my role in Kannada. You will hear my voice in the Tamil and Kannada versions. Normally, when you dub in a new language that you are not familiar with, there are times when the director either decides against using your voice altogether or to change the nativity of the character to accommodate whatever accent slips in. For instance, director MG Srinivas could have made my character a person of Malayali or Tamilian descent. Instead, he and his team spent considerable time with me to help me perfect my diction and in the end, when Srini said that I had got the pronunciations almost 99% correct, it made me very happy,” says Jayaram.

Shivarajkumar’s Ghost to release in its Tamil version in Kerala

Ghost, which has Century Star Shivarajkumar in the lead, is a heist thriller that unfolds within the premises of a prison. According to a synopsis of the film that is being circulated on social media, Shivarajkumar plays a character called Danny, who is after a stash of gold hidden away in a particular jail, for which he holds an ex-CBI officer hostage. Jayaram’s character Changappa is then called in as the hostage negotiation officer, with the narrative then unfolding between him and Shivarajkumar.
