If there’s one filmmaker who has been consistently bringing back the family audience to theatres over the years, it’s Sathyan Anthikad. The filmmaker is now gearing up for his first release post pandemic with Jayaram and Meera Jasmine-starrer Makal.

The film, which cleared the censor board earlier this week with a ‘U’ rating, is now slated to hit theatres on April 29. Makal also marks the comeback of Meera Jasmine in a full-length role after six years. She had last played the lead in Pathu Kalpanakal and was seen in a cameo role as herself in Abrid Shine’s Poomaram.

The upcoming movie, which also has Devika Sanjay and Naslen in pivotal roles, has Meera and Jayaram playing a couple. The duo had last teamed up in Onnum Mindathe in 2014.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Jayaram said that the film has him playing a rooted character and “it pretty much adheres to Sathyan Anthikad’s formula of films”. “The moviehas all the elements that people expect from both of us,” he said. The shoot of the film, which began in September 2021, had concluded last year. Apart from the lead cast, the movie, scripted by Iqbal Kuttipuram, also has Sreenivasan, Sidhique and Innocent in pivotal roles.

Last month, while releasing the film’s trailer, Sathyan Anthikad took to his social networking page to post that the film will be “a reunion of generations”. Dedicating the first teaser of the film to the late actress KPAC Lalitha, he also wrote that the actress was also set to be part of the film but couldn’t join as her health condition had worsened last year.

Makal will go up against Mammootty’s CBI 5: The Brain and Suresh Gopi’s Pappan – both of which are set to hit theatres in Kerala on April 28.
