The shoot for Jayam Ravi's upcoming film, Genie, began with a puja ceremony this morning. The film has Krithi Shetty, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead. The film is directed by Arjunan Jr, a former assistant of Mysskin. It looks like Jayam Ravi is likely to romance Krithi Shetty, who is 23 years junior to him. Genie is said to be a pan-Indian film, with Ishari Ganesh's Vels International backing the project.

Isai Puyal AR Rahman, who had earlier scored music for Jayam Ravi in Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan 2, is the composer for the film. While the cinematography is being handled by Mahesh Muthuswami, Pradeep E Ragav is handling the editing.

Taking to their social media handle, Vels Film International wrote on their page, "We're thrilled to announce our PAN-INDIAN production that promises to captivate audiences across the World! #Genie Produced by @VelsFilmIntl @IshariKGanesh starring  @actor_jayamravi An  @arrahman Musical An #ArjunanJr Magical @IamKrithiShetty @kalyanipriyan @GabbiWamiqa (sic)." Jayam Ravi was last seen in N Kalayanakrishnan's Agilan and Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 2. While he played a crane operator at the Chennai port in Agilan, he played Crown Prince Arulmozhi Varman aka Raja Raja Cholan in the historical fiction and magnum opus. Agilan opened to negative reviews, however, his role as Ponniyin Selvan was much appreciated by everyone.

In the meantime, AR Rahman is basking in the success of his last release, Maamannan, helmed by Mari Selvaraj. The song Raasa Kannu, sung by Vaigai Puyal, has become one of the most heartrending songs of the year. Maamannan marks Udhayanidhi Stalin's last film as an actor and also stars Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh. The film was bankrolled by Red Giant Movies.
