Jaya Bachchan, Soni Razdan, and other senior actors condemn the Manipur incident.

In a deeply disturbing and tragic incident, two women from Manipur were allegedly gang-raped and later paraded naked on the streets of the state. While an investigation into the matter is underway, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s Opposition parties, and several other notable celebrities have condemned the horrific incident.

Popular senior Bollywood actress and a member of the Indian Parliament, Jaya Bachchan expressed her emotions on the news development and told news agency ANI, “I felt so bad. I could not see the entire video. I was ashamed. Nobody cares. Women are being treated so badly. It is very frustrating. Every day something or the other is happening with women. It is very saddening.”

To add up, superstar Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan also expressed her concern on the horrific incident that jolted the hearts of the people in the country. In an Instagram Story today, Soni Razdan said, “I really really want to know what the government is doing and why prime time news is not flooded with news about Manipur and most of all, where is the army?”

Earlier in the day, Bollywood superstars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Kiara Advani, Sonu Sood and Riteish Deshmukh also expressed their deep concern on the news development, many of whom demanded a severe punishment for the culprits behind the horrendous act.

Akshay Kumar in a tweet today wrote, “Shaken, disgusted to see the video of violence against women in Manipur. I hope the culprits get such a harsh punishment that no one ever thinks of doing a horrifying thing like this again.”

Interestingly, if you are aware, Akshay Kumar started free self-defence training classes for women across age groups in Mumbai in 2013 after he felt triggered knowing about the Nirbhaya incident in Delhi.

Kiara Advani, too, felt sad knowing the horrific Manipur incident and said, “The video of violence against women in Manipur is horrifying and has shaken me to the core. I pray the women get justice at the earliest. Those responsible must face the most SEVERE punishment they deserve.”

As the news continues to hurt the nation, PM Modi today morning assured stringent punishment for the guilty with ‘full might of law’, in view of the Manipur incident. Meanwhile, the Manipur Police arrested one of the main accused. A high-level investigation is underway.
