Until Sunday, the first show in Kolkata was scheduled to begin after 6 am. But a New Town multiplex, Miraj Cinemas, has opened the booking at the 5 am slot on Monday.
Two more days and Shah Rukh Khan is all set to bring his Jawan – his second film of the year after Pathaan. The craze is at its top. The advance booking started last Friday and it has created a Tsunami. Jawan has already beaten Pathaan according to advance booking data. If things continue to move similarly, Jawan will soon beat Pathaan by the business.
Competition started between the multiplex owners regarding who can arrange the first day's first show before the others. Until Sunday, the first show in Kolkata was scheduled to begin after 6 am. But a New Town multiplex, Miraj Cinemas, has opened the booking at the 5 am slot on Monday. This is Jawan's first show in Kolkata till now. This might be the earliest all over West Bengal as well. In Raiganj, there is a show at 2:15 am on Friday.
SVF is distributing Jawan in West Bengal. According to an SVF official, Miraj Cinema did not take permission to open the show at 5 am. “They did not take our permission to open the booking for 5 AM. The permission from Red Chillies – the film’s producer – is still due. However, hopefully, we can show the film in this slot.” Will the other cinema halls also open the booking at 5 am? The official said, “The tickets have high demand. Nothing can be said yet. There are three days remaining and hence many equations can change. But the production house will take the final decision.”
In an interview with Anandabazar, Amit Sharma, the managing director of Miraj Cinemas, said, “We show movies in 62 multiplexes all over India. But it was our hall in Kolkata that sold the highest number of Jawan tickets. Hence, we did not want to miss the chance.” Amit said that the hall owners must consider the craze of the fans. “All the fans want to see their favorite actors’ films before everyone else. I hope that the majority of our shows on the first day will be housefull.”
No one close to the film industry could remember any other film that opened at 5 am so far in the history of film exhibition in Bengal. There was a craze about KGF2 or the Avengers Series. But the first shows were after 6 am. Pathaan’s first show in Kolkata was at 6.45 am. But Shah Rukh broke his record this time. Film presenter Satadeep Saha said, “Such an incident is unprecedented. This is a good sign. Such a craze will draw more audiences to the halls and everyone will get profit.”
Recently, the Shah Rukh Khan Behala Fan Club wanted to arrange Jawan’s show at midnight in Ajanta Cinema Hall. But the production house advised them to begin the show after 6 am. It was also heard that the first show of Jawan was supposed to be arranged after Wednesday midnight in Inox, South City. But this was canceled because the shopping mall owners did not give permission.
