As Jawan continues to break records at the box office, Atlee recently discussed Jawan's criticism from some South fans in an interview.
Atlee's Bollywood debut has exceeded all expectations at the box office. His debut Hindi film, Jawan, is rapidly approaching the Rs 1000 crore milestone at the worldwide box office and has already broken numerous box office records at domestic ticket window. The film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone is loved by the audience as well as the critics.
As Jawan continues to break records at the box office, Atlee recently discussed Jawan's criticism from some South fans in an interview.
Atlee over South fans criticizing the film
Atlee discussed how some fans have criticized the movie, saying that it is too similar to other movies he has directed, in an interview with DNA. Due to the film's content, some South fans made analogies between Mersal and Jawan. When questioned about the same, the director said that he is aware of them. He continued by saying that while some people are surprised, others have expectations. He thinks it's okay that people will always have something to say. Atlee expressed his commitment to growing and learning without hesitation.
"But overall, what was my target audience, what was my intention of making this film? I wanted to make a commercial with responsibility. And, I made it. And even my fans are in South are going really gaga about the film. And I've got new fans in the North, and they are also. So I'm happy in that space. Of course, for any product, there will be a little dissatisfaction," the director was quoted as saying.
Jawan box office
Jawan is still dominating the box office. The action thriller has already made more than 900 crore rupees worlwide, with more than 500 crore rupees from India alone.

Jawan released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on September 7. Directed by Atlee, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles. Apart from Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Dutt also makes a brief cameo in the movie. The film also stars Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Girija Oak, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Lehar Khan, Aaliyah Qureshi, Ridhi Dogra and Sunil Grover.
