The short film is all set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on December 3
Even though she is a prominent name in the stand-up comedy circuit, Jamie Lever, daughter of veteran Bollywood actor-comedian Johnny Lever, is all set to make her acting debut in a short film titled Cuddles. The film is directed by Kabeer Khurana.
Talking about the reason behind taking up acting, Jamie said in a statement, "I was sold on the script when I met Kabeer. I understood his vision as he narrated the story to me. Acting was difficult for me, as I have always done comedy. But this is a very unique project."
Jamie is used to live on-stage thanks to her stand-up comedy gigs, but acting was a completely different ballgame for her. She explained that one of the reasons she found the short film quite challenging is that her character is quite subtle. Jamie is used to giving over-the-top performances while on stage during a comedy gig.
She said, "I was just excited to play a fresh and refreshing character. When it comes to comedy, you can go over the top and be loud with your performance, but when you have a subject like Cuddles, you really have to be subtle and underplay to bring out deep emotions."
The short film is based on a short story named Kafka and the Doll, by Larissa Theule. The short is written and directed by Kabeer Khurana, and co-written by Avirat Parekh.
Asked about her overall experience of acting in a film, Jamie said, "Overall, I had a wonderful time working with Kabeer and the entire team, which comprises a young, energetic and motivated people, who are sure of what they want to do."
In fact, the actress also added that she got a chance to sing a song live in the film and recorded her own song for Cuddles, which makes the film all the more special for her.
Cuddles, which also featuring Viveck Vaswani, releases on December 3, on Disney+ Hotstar.
