Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn for the third time for the new Suicide Squad movie,
Director James Gunn says it was a privilege to write Harley Quinn character in his latest directorial The Suicide Squad. With Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, the R-rated film has been receiving mostly positive reviews after its premiere.
“I felt excited, man. I love the character of Harley Quinn,” said Gunn in an interview with Collider when asked about the pressures of writing for a character that already exists and has a fanbase. “Being able to speak in her voice and to speak for her was a privilege, but I also felt comfortable doing it,” he said.
Harley Quinn became an instant favourite since her appearance in Suicide Squad which was released in 2016. Even though the film was received with mixed reactions, the eccentric, ruthless accomplice of the Joker was a big hit.
Played by Margot Robbie, Quinn was introduced in the movie as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, the prison psychiatrist who works with the Joker, but ends up being his partner in crime. The popularity of Robbie’s portrayal of Quinn helped land her a standalone movie, Birds of Prey.
The new Suicide Squad is receiving positive responses worldwide unlike the first one and Harley Quinn appears as ruthless, quirky and eccentric as ever. While Robbie is getting praise for her portrayal of the character, credit also goes to Gunn for getting it perfect on paper and screen. The film was released in select theatres in India on August 5, according to the Hindustan Times.
The new Suicide Squad movie has Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) returning, while Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and Peacemaker (John Cena) coming in as new characters, introduced by Gunn.
The film is available on HBO Max for the US audience to stream. However, the details about any possible OTT release in India is not yet out.
