Jalsa is directed by Suresh Triveni of Tumhari Sulu fame.
Nine months after the release of Sherni Vidya Balan is gearing up for her upcoming OTT film, Jalsa. With this film, the actor reunites with the director of her 2017 hit flick, Tumhari Sulu, while it marks her first outing with Shefali Shah. Jalsa is touted to be a thriller drama set against the backdrop of an accident that takes place in the late-night hours in Mumbai. The film sees Vidya playing the role of a hard-hitting journalist, Maya, while Shefali plays her cook, Ruksana.
Speaking of the release, Jalsa is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 18, 2022, at midnight.
The supporting actors of Jalsa include Rohini Hattangadi, Surya Kasibhatla, Manav Kaul, Kashish Rizwan, Shafeen Patel, Vidhatri Bandi, Mohammad Iqbal Khan, Ghanshyam Lalsa, Shrikant Mohan Yadav, and Junaid Khan.
Jalsa is about a hit-and-run involving an 18-year-old girl, which becomes the hub of a wheel that sets in motion many spokes, including a journalist, a rage-filled mother, a cop, and a system all caught in an ethical quandary. Questions are raised only to reveal that the truth is rarely pure or simple.
Recently, in a statement, Vidya decoded the title Jalsa by saying that it's a title that is very important to her because it is a celebration. She believes one keeps talking about how one should celebrate themselves, womanhood, and one's life daily.
Vidya added that in that setting, one gets the feeling that once they have gone through something and come out on the other side, it's like a celebration at the end of the movie. When one has been through the ringer and come out the other side, every small problem or difficulty they have faced is a Jalsa, or rather, calls for a Jalsa that is a celebration of life as it is, ups and downs and all.
Jalsa is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vikram Malhotra, and Shikhaa.
