Rajinikanth's Jailer, which marked his grand comeback after a couple of underwhelming movies, is poised to set several new records in various territories. The film helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar has grossed around 90 crores on its first day from across the globe.
The movie registered the highest number for any Tamil film for day one in Karnataka while it has become the biggest opening for a Kollywood project in Kerala in 2023. It is also the numero uno movie in Tamil Nadu this year in terms of first day collection.
Ayngaran International, which presented the film overseas, announced that Jailer has grossed around 35 crores from other countries. It opened to a terrific number in the USA and has now surpassed Kamal Haasan's biggest blockbuster Vikram. All eyes are now on the Tamil Nadu box office. The star's previous films haven't been doing great at the home territory.
Cinephiles have already begun predicting the final box office numbers of the movie based on the current craze. However, it is possible to come to a conclusion only after Wednesday, suggest a few trade pundits.
Going by the current trend, Jailer is likely to outsmart Ponniyin Selvan 2 and Varisu, the two biggest hits in Tamil this year. Movie buffs are also eager to know how Leo, the next big film in Kollywood, is going to deal with the Rajinikanth-starrer in terms of promotions and numbers.
