Mohanlal's cameo appearance as Matthew in the Rajinikanth film has been a treat for the fans
Rajinikanth's Jailer is all the rage acros s the country. Fans in South India are especially excited to see the actor in a mass role after a gap of a couple of years. Jailer is also being hailed as director Nelson's powerful comeback after Vijay's Beast failed to impress.
Nelson is being praised for showcasing the three superstars — Mohanlal, Rajinikanth, and Shivarajkumar — in an impressive manner. And now, the director has shared his belief that superstars have a certain value and legacy that should be utilised accordingly. He also spoke about Mohanlal's character in the movie and its placement.
'Mohanlal sir has star value and a legacy'
"Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar are great artists and stars in their respective industries. Even though they appear in Jailer for a few minutes, their characters are capable of making quite an impact. I am a fan of Mohanlal sir and have always wanted to work with him. He has star value and a legacy that should be utilised accordingly. While shooting Mohanlal's sequences, I was excited to see him in character. And that is being seen in theatres as well," he said while speaking with Cinema Vikatan.
Nelson also revealed that he wanted to cast Telugu star Nandamuri Balakrishna in the film. "I wanted to cast Telugu star Balakrishna sir. I had envisioned the character of a deadly police officer for him but couldn't develop the character as much as I wanted. Every character in Jailer had a graph, but that didn't happen for Balakrishna sir's character. So I had to drop it," he added.
Nelson didn't deliberately choose stars from other industries for Jailer
Nelson revealed that he did not aim to make Jailer a multi-starrer by deliberately selecting actors from other industries. Instead, the plan was to choose performers who best suited their respective characters.
Nelson made his debut with the black comedy Kolamavu Kokila, which revolves around the life of a young woman who is forced to smuggle drugs. His subsequent films also had elements of black comedy that have not been fully explored in Tamil cinema.
