Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer also has Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Vinayakan in pivotal roles
This year’s biggest Tamil hit, Rajinikanth’s Jailer, is gearing up for its OTT release. The film, which has already grossed over Rs 550 crore, will also be dropping its Hindi version on Amazon Prime Video, a month after its theatrical release.
Jailer, which is helmed by Beast and Doctor director Nelson Dilipkumar, has been rewriting the record books in Tamil Nadu and Kerala since its theatrical release on August 10. While the movie couldn’t quite capture the Hindi market with its theatrical version, the film is sure to attract the Hindi-speaking audience when it gets its OTT release.

When is Jailer’s Hindi version releasing on OTT?
Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that the action-thriller’s Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada versions will be releasing simultaneously on the platform on September 7. This would also end Jailer’s theatrical reign in most markets, with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan set to take over most theatres on the same date.
Jailer revolves around a retired cop’s efforts to track what happened to his son after the latter lock horns with idol smugglers. Muthuvel Pandian, Rajinikanth’s character in the film, then seeks help from those from his past.
CBFC edits Rakesh Roshan reference from Jailer’s Hindi version
The Hindi version of Jailer will not have certain references pertaining to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan after CBFC has ordered the film’s team to remove these “derogatory” portions. Two more cuts were suggested by the CBFC for its Hindi version, which was first given a U/A rating on August 8.
The film has a host of stars across the country including Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Shivarajkumar and Remya Krishnan in pivotal roles. Malayalam actor Vinayakan plays the antagonist in the movie.
Rajinikanth receives Rs 100 Cr from Jailer producer
Following the film’s massive success, its producer Kalanithi Maran had awarded Rajinikanth a cheque of Rs 100 crore and a BMW car. The film’s director Nelson was also given a Porsche SUV along with an offer to do his next film with the same producers.
