The Nelson directed Rajinikanth-starrer opened with 6 am shows on August 10 in different parts of the country
The first-day-first-shows of Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited Nelson directorial Jailer are still on, but initial reports, based on the first half, have already begun trickling in. Going by how audiences seem to be enjoying it, Jailer may just become the blockbuster that Rajinikanth fans have been waiting for.

A majority of the reports on social media so far are pointing towards a highly engaging first half, with the comedy dynamic between Rajinikanth and Yogi Babu, family sentiment, mass elements, Aniruddh’s background score and the interval block fight sequence among the major highlights. “First half is a banger”, is a common refrain, with audiences eagerly waiting for how the second half addresses certain questions raised in the first bit of the film.
Jailer opened with 6 am shows in several states, except the Superstar’s home ground Tamil Nadu, where the first screening will begin only at 9 am. Die-hard Rajinikanth fans from the state have been requesting those who catch the FDFS in, say, Bengaluru, not to post reviews with spoilers on social media. In Bengaluru, the film has opened with over 1,000 shows , the majority of which are in the Tamil original version, while the Kannada-dubbed one gets about 30 shows.
Jailer, produced by Sun Pictures, is Nelson’s first film with Rajinikanth. The film also stars Ramya Krishnan, Mirna Menon, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, Jackie Shroff, Tamannaah, Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar, among others. The film, according to the synopsis has Rajinikanth as prison warden Tiger Muthuvel Pandian and how deals with a gang’s attempt to break out their leader from the jail under his watc h. According to the trailer that came out days ago, Muthuvel Pandian is a calm and quiet man on the home front, but he’s a man with a past, and when push comes to shove, he does not shy away from turning to his old ways to solve a problem.
