The release of the Malayalam film Jailer, helmed by Sakkir Madathil featuring Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead, has been postponed. Earlier, the film was scheduled to release on August 10 along with Rajinikanth's Jailer ,directed by Nelson. According to reports, the director of Malayalam Jailer went back from his decision to release the film on the same date after theatre owners expressed disinterest to give a long theatrical window to the film.

But Sakkir said that he reconsidered his decision because the producers of the Tamil Jailer withdrew from the legal battle claiming the ownership of the title. He also mentioned that the two films have different budgets and artists, and that he does not intend to cause any issues for anyone.

"I don't want to create any issues. All I needed was a right over my film. Now, the producers of the Tamil film have withdrawn the case. The theatre owners and film associations have also requested me to postpone the release. I was trolled by a few claiming that viewers might get confused between the two movies if they release on the same date. I don't want to steal the Tamil movie's audience," says Sakkir while talking to a YouTube channel.

Sakkir had recently organized a one-man protest against the theatre owners alleging that they denied theatres for his film. He opined that Malayalam films are often disregarded amid the wide releases of other languages.

Sakkir's movie courted controversy after It requested Sun Pictures to change the title of their Tamil production Jailer. After the leading production firm rejected his request, the dejected filmmaker informed everyone that they are planning to take the legal route.

The Malayalam film revolves around the story of a jailer, who is assigned a task to capture a few convicts who escaped from a prison. It stars Divya Pillai, Unni Raja, Navas Vallikkunnu, and Manoj K Jayan, too, essaying notable roles along with Dhyan Sreenivasan.
