The complaint was filed by a caste outfit a few months ago,
Suriya in Jai Bhim
Director TJ Gnanavel's Jai Bhim, which was released in November 2021, opened to unanimous positive response from movie buffs and critics alike. The courtroom drama which is based on real-life incidents had skipped theatrical release and dropped directly on Amazon Prime Video.
However, a caste outfit had expressed displeasure against the movie and its makers for allegedly portraying their community in poor light. They asked its makers to apologize and even threatened them of severe consequences. After realizing that the team was in no mood to tender an apology, they announced a sum of ₹1 lakh to anyone to attack Suriya.
Many actors and filmmakers from Kollywood came out in support of Suriya and condemned the outfit for their aggressive behaviour. Later, they filed a complaint against Suriya and Gnanavel in Velachery police station in Chennai. A month ago, Madras High Court asked cops not to initiate any action against the actor-filmmaker duo.
Today, the Court has dismissed the FIR against Suriya and Gnanavel which has come as a huge relief for them. It looks like this is the end of the controversy unless the community comes up with some other plans.
Jai Bhim, the second direct-to-OTT release for Suriya, garnered praise from several quarters, thanks to flawless performances from the actor, Lijomol Jose, Manikandan and Rao Ramesh. Guru Somasundaram, Tamizh and MS Bhaskar are others who played notable roles in the film.
The movie, which has Suriya playing the role of a lawyer, received several recognition and was screened at various film festivals in India and abroad. Sean Roldan has composed music for Jai Bhim which has cinematography and editing handled by SR Kathir and Philomin Raj respectively.
