Actor-turned-MP Dev reacted sharply to the mysterious death of Jadavpur University’s student. In an interview with a news media, he expressed displeasure over the incident and talked about taking tough measures beyond the political divide.

The young student died on Wednesday night at the university’s Main Hostel. The police filed a murder case based on his father’s complaint. The student reportedly died after gruesome ragging by his seniors. After an initial investigation, the police arrested a former student called Sourav Choudhury. Later, on Sunday, they arrested two more undergraduate students Manotosh Ghosh and Deepsekhar Dutta.

In an interview with ABP Ananda, Dev commented on the incident. He said, “It is wrong and can not be tolerated. Tough measures should be brought against ragging, and it has to be done going beyond politics. He also consented to the appropriate punishment of the culprits.”

His girlfriend actress Rukmini Maitra also reacted to the incident. She emphasised the need to discipline to counter the culture of ragging.

Director Kamaleswar Mukhopadhyay also gave a sharp reaction in his Facebook post and wrote, “Ragging is an abominable manifestation of personal frustration. If conducted unitedly, then the muscle flexing increases. Political instigation and support of the outsider dadas add to that. However, all these so-called ‘brave men’ crawl back into their holes if they see any injustice in the outer world. They stand with folded hands and bent heads in front of all the crimes happening in their working lives.” He demanded to form an anti-ragging forum at every educational institute in West Bengal.

Earlier, Riddhi Sen, Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, and others became vocal on social media about this issue and demanded justice.
