Jadavpur student death: Actor Riddhi Sen condemns the death of a student

Police have started investigating his death and a number of other students were arrested on suspicion of bullying and ragging the young student.

Young Jadavpur University student’s mysterious death at the institution’s Main Hostel has left the common people shocked and agitated. The 17-year-old boy, who got admitted to the Bengali department this year, fell from the hostel balcony on Wednesday night and was taken to the hospital in a bloodied state. He succumbed to death there on Thursday morning. The student hailed from Hashkhali, Nadia. Police have started investigating his death and a number of other students were arrested on suspicion of bullying and ragging the young student. A number of Tollywood celebrities condemned the death.

Riddhi Sen became vocal on social media about this issue and demanded justice.

Riddhi wrote on Facebook, “We are educated, cultured, and social people. We are the learned citizens walking proudly after getting degrees from esteemed universities. However, the number of murderers is more outside prisons. The institutional parameters that tag us educated have broken down many years back. Now a perverted idea of our social education will reign, along with its ranking of first, second, and third.”

Riddhi further added, “Another life is gone, who was supposed to live, who had a right to live. Just feel this, and feel how terrible it is. Just think that we have developed as human beings--we ride planes, make online payments, and put jet spray in the toilets--but we do not let others live. We want justice for the murder. But can we stop another murder with the weapon named ragging?”

Tollywood has been vocal about this incident. Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, Sudipta Chakraborty, Anusha Viswanathan, Subhamita, and others openly criticised the incident.
