Jada Pinkett Smith on the infamous 'slapgate'

Jada Pinkett Smith's new novel 'Worthy' might seem like an enticing tell-all account of her life but she has begun dispensing the good bits well in advance. The actress and talk-show host might have stayed away from the limelight ever since the scandalous 'slapgate' at the Oscars 2022 occurred but she is now back in the thick of things, finally offering her perspective.

Her book, though, might not be only about the Will Smith - Chris Rock skirmish but more of an insightful and candour-filled memoir that speaks about life within and outside Hollywood, but the media is definitely interested in what transpired on the evening of March 27, 2022.

Of course, we refer to the 94th Academy Awards to which Jada Pinkett Smith accompanied her husband Will Smith, unbeknownst that the night would end up becoming a most fateful one for the couple. Will Smith was one of the top contenders to win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard but things turned on their heads abruptly when, mid-show, he found himself slapping host of the night, Chris Rock on the centre stage. The reason for the attack, of course, was Rock's joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's alopecia which caused her husband to not only launch a physical attack but also yell out a profanity-filled warning to the host of the night.

52-year-old Jada Pinkett Smith finally spoke about what really happened after the incident, which the rest of the world remains unaware of to this day, in a recent interview with Today.

"Chris looks to me and he says, ‘Jada, I meant no harm,'" recalls Pinkett Smith, before going on to reveal that she couldn't fully comprehend or absorb the apology because she "really worried about" Will Smith's unusual behaviour.

"Will is still talking because now he is mad that Chris is talking to me and I go, 'Chris, this is about some old sh*t'," she adds, recalling a few puzzling portions of that eventful night.
