Jaane Jaan director Sujoy Ghosh addresses skepticism about casting Kareena Kapoor - 'She will never shoot in Darjeeling...'

Sujoy Ghosh's directorial Jaane Jaan starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma, and Jaideep Ahlawat has received positive reviews from the viewers.

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor made her OTT debut with Jaane Jaan in 2023. The actress played the role of Maya D'Souza in the Sujoy Ghosh directorial. Bebo featured in the movie with Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma. The film had a digital release on Netflix on September 21, 2023. Sujoy's Jaane Jaan is an adaptation of the 2005 Japanese novel, The Devotion Of Suspect X, by Keigo Higashino. In a new interview, the filmmaker opened up about casting Kareena and also recalled what skeptics told him before Jaane Jaan.

Sujoy Ghosh talks about casting Kareena Kapoor in Jaane Jaan

In a recent interview with Mashable India, filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh shared the reason behind casting Kareena Kapoor Khan in Jaane Jaan. He said that when writing a character, he always creates a face in his mind.

"When I was writing the role of a mother who works round the clock to support her child, with no time to prioritize herself, but still looks pretty, I see Kareena. Thankfully, when she agreed to take on the role, half my work was done. From that point on, it was up to her to drive the film forward," Sujoy added.

Sujoy Ghosh on skeptisicm about casting Kareena Kapoor

To capture the film’s narrative, the project was entirely shot in the surroundings near Darjeeling. In the interview, Ghosh recalled facing skepticism about casting Kareena and said that he had to listen “Kareena Kapoor would never agree to shoot there.”

Addressing this, Sujoy added that there is a huge difference between the actress's public perception and her dedication to their work.

“When you see someone publicly, it’s easy to form an opinion about them. Many told me Kareena would never shoot in Darjeeling, but that wasn’t the case. She committed fully to the project. Her dedication to work is commendable”, shared Sujoy Ghosh.

The story revolves around Maya, along with Tara. The mother-daughter duo killed Maya's ex-husband Ajit when he tried to extort money by threatening them violently. On the other hand, Jaideep Ahlawat, a devoted Mathematics teacher Naren Vyas and Maya's neighbor, got to know that Ajit had been killed and offered help to the mother-daughter duo.

Meanwhile, Jaane Jaan is streaming on Netflix.
