The latest Tamil comedy-drama J Baby, starring Urvashi in the titular role, is now available for streaming. The film made its digital debut on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, on the eve of the Tamil New Year celebration.
J Baby was first released in cinemas on March 8 and garnered good reviews. The film struck a chord with audiences, especially thanks to Urvashi's committed performance as an aged troublemaker.
J Baby marked the directorial debut of Suresh Mari and is bankrolled by Pa. Ranjith. Suresh made this film based on one of his family members. "Urvashi's character is inspired by my aunt. The way she performed the character moved me. I even cried on set seeing her performance a few times," recalled Suresh.
The tale of J Baby
In J Baby, Urvashi plays a short-tempered grandmother notorious for creating trouble. She doesn't fear power or authority and has a penchant for dropping names. "I am Stalin's friend"; "Indira Gandhi was my friend; Jayalalithaa was my friend." She claims to be friends with some of the most powerful political leaders in Indian history and even provokes a cop minding his own business, feeling he's not doing his job properly.
Her antics cause a lot of stress to her sons, who eventually lash out at her. J Baby disappears, prompting their children to search for her across the country. "I still have a respectable distance from my mother. There is a scene in this film where I must search for my mother. Probably it is this scene, which has made me take it up and do the film. It made me emotional. I am a jovial person, but this character wanted a 180-degree turn and be more vulnerable. I hope to have done a better job," Dinesh told OTTplay earlier.
Dinesh plays one of J Baby's sons in the movie.
