In a pre-release event held recently, Urvashi spoke how she was sceptical about playing the role of a grandmother in the film and had initially not wanted to take up the role. However, director Suresh Mari had insisted that she do the role and did not budge to her resistance.
J Baby is directed by Suresh Mari in his directorial debut. He has been a long-time associate of filmmakers Pa Ranjith and Venkat Prabhu. The director had recently revealed that Urvashi was the first option to play the lead role and had she not accepted, he would have approached Radhika Sarathkumar. The film is inspired by the life of Suresh’s aunt. Ranjith is backing J Baby under his banner Neelam Productions, along with Abhayanand Singh, Piiyush Singh, Sourabh Gupta, Aditi Anand, and Ashwini Chaudhari. With Jayanth Sethu Mathavan cranking the camera, the music is composed by Tony Britto. Shanmugam Velusamy is the editor of the film.
The makers of J Baby have not yet revealed the OTT partner of the film. However, it is expected that the film will have a mandatory run of four weeks in theatres before debuting on streaming platforms.
The film has been given a clean U certificate. It is interesting to note that the film will be the first one to get such a rating from CBFC for a Neelam Production. J Baby is expected to be an emotional drama with elements of comedy. The film has been shot in various real locations across India. The film will release alongside Hansika Motwani-starrer Guardian.
