Salaar

Prabhas’ second theatrical release Salaar, which was to arrive on September 28, was postponed in the last minute owing to VFX delay, resulting in several release date changes for films across industries. From November to December 2023 and Sankranthi 2024, there were several speculations about the tentative release date of Salaar, causing much confusion among fans.

Hombale Films today confirmed what was more or less official earlier this week. Salaar is coming for Christmas 2023. “Coming Bloody Soon. #SalaarCeaseFire Worldwide Release On Dec 22, 2023,” the makers tweeted this morning, sharing a new poster of Prabhas, where star dons a black vest and holds a weapon in his hand. The action entertainer is written and directed by Prashanth Neel.

Shruti Haasan plays the female lead in the film that also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jagapathi Babu, Saptagiri, Sriya Reddy, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Brahmaji in important roles. Ravi Basrur scores the music for the film. The official synopsis of Salaar has already sparked rumours that the actioner is a grander remake of Prashanth Neel’s own Kannada film Ugramm.

Salaar will now officially clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s comedy Dunki, Raj Kumar Hirani worldwide. The latter, much like Salaar, will also have a release in multiple languages including Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Saindhav, Hi Nanna and Extra Ordinary Man were other Telugu films scheduled to release in the same week. Will the films now be pushed to a later date in 2024? Only time can tell.

Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of Salaar across South Indian languages - Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Bhuvan Gowda is the cinematographer for the film and Ujwal Kulkarni is the editor. Salaar will be a two-part action franchise and the first part is titled Salaar Part 1: Cease Fire. Prabhas’ Project K and a horror comedy with Maruthi will be out in 2024.
