It's official: Vikram, Dhruv's Mahaan to have a direct release on Amazon Prime Video on Feb 10

There has been speculation doing the rounds for a few months on Karthik Subbaraj's Mahaan opting for a direct release on Amazon Prime Video. But the makers never reacted to the same, though it was more or less confirmed recently. After waiting eagerly for an update on the same, they have now made it official.

The gangster flick, which brings together Vikram and Dhruv for the first time, will release on February 10. A few hours ago, Karthik had taken to his Twitter page to inform that there will be an update on the film's release today, and fans couldn't wait any more. He tweeted, "#Mahaan .. His Time Begins !!! Finally.... A BIG announcement is on the way (sic)."

The makers had released the movie's first look, poster reel and a lyric video a few months ago. Starring Simran, Bobby Simha and Vani Bhojan, too, in pivotal roles, this has been one of the much-awaited Tamil films of 2021. Though movie lovers were expecting it to hit the screens in late 2021 or in the beginning of 2022, the makers had other plans.

This is the second continuous movie of Karthik which has chosen the OTT way for release. His last outing, the Dhanush-starrer Jagame Thandhiram, had a direct release on Netflix last year.

The story of Mahaan is said to revolve around a gangster who realizes that he hasn't shared quality time with his son. How the duo spends happy time together and take on a dreaded gang of criminals forms the crux of the story.

The movie will release in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam under the title Mahaan, while the Kannada version has been titled Maha Purusha. The movie also marks Vikram's first direct-to-OTT release. The actor currently has Cobra, Ponniyin Selvan and Dhruva Natchathiram in his kitty.
