Telugu superstar Prabhas on Sunday confirmed Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's role in Project K.
In a historic casting coup, director Nag Ashwin has roped in Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan for his upcoming multilingual movie, Project K. Starring Prabhas in the lead, the production of one of the most expensive Indian movies is going on in full swing. And the addition of Kamal to the cast rooster just increased the movie's appeal by 10X.
The official announcement of Kamal joining the film's cast is the culmination of weeks of speculations. Rumours were rife that the producers had approached Kamal to play the main antagonist in the movie and that they offered a massive remuneration for the same. If the rumours are true, then Kamal will likely become the highest-paid actor to play a negative role in India.
The filmmakers released a small teaser honouring the rich cinematic legacy of Kamal with a message: "We needed someone whose shadow could cover the earth and there was only one Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan."
Project K: Kamal Haasan to earn this much for Prabhas starter?
Telugu superstar Prabhas also expressed his excitement about sharing the screen space with the legendary superstar, while sharing the news with his fans on social media.
"A moment that will be etched in my heart forever. Honored beyond words to collaborate with the legendary Kamal Haasan sir in #ProjectK. The opportunity to learn and grow alongside such a titan of cinema is a dream come true moment," Prabhas wrote on his Facebook page.
At this point, the filmmakers have not revealed whether Kamal will play the main antagonist in the movie. However, if it's true, then it's a departure from the tradition of not playing the villain in a movie headlined by other stars. It's noteworthy that Kamal even turned down the offer to play the antagonist in Superstar Rajinikanth's 2.0. The role was eventually played by Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.
Project K is director Nag Ashwin's most ambitious cinematic attempt. And he has assembled the biggest superstars from across the country for big-budget science fiction. Besides Prabhas and Kamal, the movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone.
Earlier, the filmmakers announced that Project K will release in cinemas in January, coinciding with the celebration of Sankranti. However, with the production still going on, the film is unlikely to release on the said date.
