Unveiling the first look of Naai Sekar Sivakarthikeyan, as a self-confessed fan of Vadivelu, reminded Sathish that he has a big responsibility on his shoulders,
Sathish and Vadivelu
Veteran Tamil comedian Vadivelu was constantly in the news recently for his comeback in films after a four-year hiatus. The red card issued to him was sorted sometime ago, and he was all set to don the greasepaint again after signing a five-film deal with Lyca Productions. The first project was announced as Naai Sekar with director Suraj at the helm.
The film is a spin off to the popular character 'Naai Sekar' essayed by the actor in the film Thalai Nagaram made by Suraj in 2006. However, the team hit an unexpected roadblock when they got to know that the title has already been registered by AGS Productions for a movie, to be directed by Kishore Rajkumar, featuring Sathish in the lead.
Sivakarthikeyan has now officially announced through his Twitter handle that Sathish's project is titled Naai Sekar along with a poster of the film, featuring Sathish and a dog in it. The translated version of his tweet read, "As a fan of Vadivelu sir, I'm glad to release the first look of this project." Tagging Sathish, he added, "You have a big responsibility on your shoulders. Give your best." Meanwhile, the makers of Suraj-Vadivelu project, after knowing that nothing can be done, have changed the title to Naai Sekar Returns.
In an earlier interview to OTTplay, Sathish said, "We have immense respect for Vadivelu sir; he is one of the comedy pioneers in Tamil cinema. We are currently in a position where we can't do anything. A dog plays a pivotal role in our film and the protagonist's name is Sekar. At this point, it is difficult for us to consider a new name for our project. We would have happily changed the title had we known that another project is being planned with the same name."
