Ishq Vishk actor Shenaz Treasury diagnosed with prosopagnosia, says she can't put faces together

The actor was last seen in Saif Ali Khan's Kaalakaandi.

Shenaz Treasury of Ishq Vishk fame has left everyone shocked. The actress announced that she has been diagnosed with prosopagnosia or facial/visual agnosia (face blindness). The actress took to Instagram stories to share the news.

The actor was suffering from the issue for a long time but she couldn't realise what it is. In a series of stories, she opened up about her struggle with recognising faces of even close friends and family. This has not gone too well with her associate, and they got upset with the actress.

She urged everyone to understand that she has a cognitive disorder, and it is not that she is acting snobbish. In the first story, Shenaz wrote: "I've been diagnosed with prosopagnosia. Now I understand why I've never been able to put faces together. It's a cognitive disorder."

She further mentioned about the symptoms of the disorder. She posted, "Signs and symptoms of face blindness/prosopagnosia. 1. You have failed to recognise a close friend or family member, especially when you weren't expecting to see them. Yes, that is me. Takes me a minute to register who the person is. Sometimes even a close friend I haven't seen in a while."

She also explained what she struggles with due to the health issue. She said she has difficulty in recognising neighbours, friends, coworkers, clients, schoolmates. "People you know expect you to recognise them. Failing to recognise someone might make you seem aloof. Many sufferers report losing friends and offending coworkers because they have failed to recognise them. This is me," she said. She called it a “real brain issue" and asked everyone to understand and be kind.

The Delhi Belly actress also shared an example saying it might be confusing for some to recognise someone who's just had a hair cut. Those who suffer from the face blindness use hair as a cue and so it can get even more difficult to recognise someone who's cut his or her hair.

Shenaz was a model and VJ on MTV before she stepped into acting with the 2001 Telugu film, Eduruleni Manishi. The actress is best known for her role in the 2003 film, Ishq Vishk, which also starred Shahid Kapoor and Amruta Rao, and the 2011 film, Delhi Belly. She was last seen in Saif Ali Khan-starrer Kaalakaandi.
