The shooting for Thug Life, Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan’s most ambitious project, has been going on in full swing and fans are awaiting its massive release. In a recent interview, co-star Jayam Ravi, who had been cast in the film to play a key character, opened up about why he chose to do the film, while sharing titbits about his exciting role in the movie.
When asked about whether he was interested in multi-starrer films such as Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2, Thug Life, the actor responded that he can't say ‘no’ to the legendary director. “I cannot say no to Mani Ratnam Sir, hence I took up Thug Life. I will be playing an extended cameo role in the film. The shooting for my portions begins from March,” the actor revealed.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, the upcoming dystopian period film marks the reunion of actor Kamal Haasan and the director after 36 years. The duo last worked together in 1987 blockbuster gangster drama Nayagan. Thug life features an ensemble star cast including Dulquer Salmaan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Gautham Karthik, who will be seen playing pivotal roles. Based on the teaser the film promises to take us through a dystopian world where Kamal's character introduces himself as Rangarayar Sakthivel Naiker. Then a battle breaks out, with Kamal Haasan showcasing his martial arts skills as he takes on heavily armed rivals with historic weapons, giving out a post-apocalyptic vibe.
The Mani Ratnam film’s first shooting schedule had taken place in Chennai in January 2024. According to the latest reports, the film team will begin its overseas schedule in the Republic of Serbia, which is located in Europe. Jayam Ravi is expected to be part of the shooting schedule in Europe.

Meanwhile, Jayam Ravi's last film Siren, released in February, opened to mixed reactions. With couple of exciting projects in the lineup, the actor will be gearing up for the release of his upcoming family drama Brother, which is directed by M Rajesh.
