Nagashekar is preparing to release Sanju Weds Geetha 2 without a trailer and explains why he’s chosen to skip this step
When filmmaker Nagashekar announced that he was making Sanju Weds Geetha 2 with Srinagara Kitty in the lead, it raised a lot of eyebrows. Kitty was the hero of Nagashekar’s 2011 film Sanju Weds Geetha, which had a tragic ending, with both the leads, perishing. How was it then possible for Kitty to play the lead in a sequel, wondered audiences. Throughout the making of the film and the early promotions, Nagashekar chose not to clarify, saying only that whether or not the films are connected would be revealed when Sanju Weds Geetha 2 hits theatres. That would be the big mystery leading up to the release, he had said.

However, with only days to go for the January 10 release of the film, Nagashekar has decided to come clean and give audiences clarity whether to expect a connect. Speaking to the media ahead of the release, the filmmaker said that Sanju Weds Geetha 2 is not a sequel. “There is no connection between the two films. The question, then, would be why I have chosen to call it Sanju Weds Geetha 2. The simple answer is that the name Sanju fits Kitty perfectly; he is called Sandalwood Sanju. As for Geetha, it was never about whether to have Ramya on board again or anyone else. This was a role that demanded a lot of performance and we needed an artiste who could pull it off. Rachita Ram was one of two names we had in mind and she agreed to be a part of it and has done a fantabulous job,” said the filmmaker.
Music was a major element of Sanju Weds Geetha, which continues with Sanju Weds Geetha 2 as well. Sridhar V Sambhram is onboard, and has composed 5 songs. “The film, though, will have 6 in total, including a folk song, the rights of which belong to the Lahari Music label. This folk number is vital to the story and we are presenting a new version of it,” adds Nagashekar.
Sanju Weds Geetha 2 is the latest film that will hit theatres without a trailer, following in the footsteps of the ganesh-starrer hit, Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi. Nagashekar explains why he has chosen to skip this step. “What is a trailer? A series of some of the best shots, joined together with a melody or some rocking music. In a film in which each shot is better than the other, how does one pick and choose only a few to present to audiences?” he asks.
