Hotyapuri is going to be produced by SVF and the fans are waiting eagerly for the official announcement
Indraneil Sengupta
The shooting of the next Feluda film Hotyapuri is to start in May yet there’s no official word from the makers about who’s going to fill in the big shoes of the cerebral sleuth of Bengal. Eminent heavy names such as Soumitra Chatterjee, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Abir Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, and Tota Roy Choudhury have so far depicted the iconic image of Feluda onscreen, who are keener on using his ‘Mogojastro’. Director Sandip Ray has been looking for a fresh face to portray the eponymous hero and now there’s a pretty strong buzz that Indraneil Sengupta might be the one. However, it’s not yet officially confirmed by either the director or the production house yet.
For the unversed, Feluda is an iconic Bengali detective hero created by the master storyteller and auteur Satyajit Ray. Feluda is formally named Prodosh C. Mitter and he’s accompanied by his cousin/assistant Topshe aka Tapesh Ranjan Mitter. And there’s the third member, Lalmohan Ganguly aka Jatayu is a writer who writes pulp crime thrillers but is weak and nervous in real life. The famous trio has been ruling the hearts and minds of the fans since 1965.
Hotyapuri was first published in a children’s magazine called Sandesh and it revolves around the famous trio - Feluda, Topshe, and Lalmohan – when they dig deep into a murder mystery when they discover a dead body on the beach.
Interestingly, Tota Roy Choudhury’s name has also surfaced as the next likely Feluda candidate, especially after Srijit Mukherji decided to cast him in his upcoming web series. Now the fans are just waiting for the official nod.
The shooting schedule of Hotyapuri will probably commence from May end and is slated to release on December 23.
