Rohit Shetty directorial Cirkus starring Ranveer Singh released in cinemas today, on 23rd December.
In terms of box office, Ranveer Singh is one of the most popular and marketable actors in the country. He began his career with the Yash Raj Films movie Band Baaja Baaraat, and then he experimented with different genres with movies like Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl and Lootera. Ram Leela was his biggest commercial success, and there was no turning back after that.
The only film that Ranveer Singh has released so far in 2022 was Jayeshbhai Jordaar, which performed terribly at the box office and became Ranveer Singh's biggest failure. Now, Ranveer Singh's Cirkus premiered in theatres today, December 23. The livewire actor plays two roles in the comedy-drama movie, which is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play Comedy of Errors. After Sooryavanshi and Simmba, it is the third film that Rohit Shetty has made with Ranveer Singh.
Jacqueline Fernandes and Pooja Hegde play the key female roles in Cirkus. Earlier, the box office predcitions believed that Cirkus' bizarre trailer and Ranveer's star power will definitely help the movie do well on its opening day. But as soon as reviews started pouring in today, the lifetime box office collection for the film looks like a long lost dream. Let's now take a look at the last 7 releases by the actor and talk about its box office details!
Simmba:
Simmba marked Ranveer Singh's debut collaboration with Rohit Shetty and had him playing a police officer. The action drama received a positive response when it debuted and made Rs 20 crore on its first day of collection. On the weekend, it performed well, and during the week, it was largely consistent. This enabled the movie, which cost Rs 80 crore to produce, to make Rs 240 crore over the course of its whole run. A remake of Jr. NTR's Temper is titled Simmba (2015).
Gully Boy:
Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar and starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, made close to Rs 19 crore on its opening day and was well-received by the majority of critics. The catchy songs and good reviews helped the musical drama become the preferred choice of the Gen Y audience. Gully Boy had a production budget of over 70 crore rupees and made 140 crore rupees during its whole run.
Sooryavanshi:
In Rohit Shetty's cop world, Ranveer Singh returned in the Akshay Kumar-starring Sooryavanshi as Sangram "Simmba" Bhalerao. After a string of duds, the movie took in an amazing Rs 26.29 crore on its opening day, helping Bollywood recover. The action movie, which cost Rs 160 crore to make, made Rs 196 crore over the course of its theatrical run and became Bollywood's first success following the Covid-19 pandemic.
83:
Ranveer Singh played former Indian captain Kapil Dev in the film 83, which earned Rs 12.47 crore on its opening day and received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with many complimenting the actor's performance. Despite the favourable word of mouth, it did not, however, perform as well as anticipated in the days that followed. Most experts agree that the Covid-19 limits that were implemented in some cities soon after its release had an impact on its performance. 83, which had a budget of 225 crores but only made 109 crores, is seen as a failure.
Jayeshbhai Jordaar:
On its first day, the comedy drama only made a meagre Rs 3.25 crore and earned mixed reviews from the critics. Over the weekend, Jayeshbhai Jordaar remained unimpressive and ultimately failed miserably. The Divyang Thakkar-directed film cost 86 crore rupees to produce, but it only made 15.6 crore during its whole run.
Padmaavat:
Padmaavat was released in the year 2018 and starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles. The Indian period romantic drama was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was made over the budget of 180-190 cr. Becoming a commercial success, the film earned 585 cr at the box office and Ranveer was lauded for his performance as well.
Bajirao Mastani:
Released in 2015, Bajirao Mastani was a historical romantice drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film was headlined by Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, The film crossed over 254 cr at the Indian box office and was made in a budget of 145 cr and was a major commercial success.
This seems like in order to reclaim his position as a top-billed star of the nation in the upcoming year, Ranveer Singh needs to make some corrections.
