Is Chaaver director Tinu Pappachan working on a sequel to Ajagajantharam?

Filmmaker Tinu Pappachan, whose latest movie Chaaver received mixed reviews from the audience and critics, is better known for his action thrillers Ajagajantharam and Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. His movies usually have high-octane action sequences, fast cuts and racy background scores. Commenting on Chaaver’s lukewarm response at the box office, Tinu said that Chaaver is different from his previous projects.

The filmmaker told Silly Monks Mollywood that some moviegoers may have expected an Ajagajanthram while purchasing tickets for Chaaver. According to him, Chaaver is not an out-and-out action film, making it clear that he never intended to be labelled solely as an action film director. “It wasn’t until negative reviews surfaced after Chaaver’s release that I became aware of this branding and the audience’s desire for another film like Ajagajantharam” said Tinu.

According to him, a director should not let the audience’s expectations limit their creativity, and opined that filmmakers should choose subjects they are passionate about without aiming to please the viewers alone.

“I could have taken up Ajagajanthram 2 instead, if I were a director who wished to follow my usual style. The first part of the film ended with a potential for a sequel. Still, I chose Chaaver because I liked the script and wanted to try something new,” the filmmaker elaborated.

When asked specifically about the sequel to Ajagajantharam the director stated that it is too soon to provide details about the film, as the script has not yet been finalised. He also said that the sequel may or may not happen, as it depends on the strength of the script.

Tinu Pappachan’s upcoming projects

The director expressed his interest in directing a romantic film, but didn’t share any details about the project. There were rumours that he might collaborate with actors like Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas. Tinu, however, clarified that those projects were not yet finalised. Unfortunately, Tinu’s project with Mohanlal did not come to fruition , as the superstar disapproved of the script.
