The official announcement is yet to be made by the makers.
It was back in 2021 when the makers of Soorarai Pottru officially announced the Hindi remake of the film. Interestingly, the director Sudha Kongara will also be helming the remake, which will be co-produced by the leading actor and producer Suriya Sivakumar and Jyotika under his home banner 2D Entertainment. As per the latest reports, the lead star of the Hindi remake has been finalized.
Yes, as per reports in Peeping Moon, Akshay Kumar has been roped in to play the lead in the film inspired by the life of Air Deccan founder Capt G R Gopinath. A source told the entertainment portal that Akshay has been in talks for this film for the past six months and, despite giving his verbal approval last year, he has only recently signed on the dotted line.
The source also revealed that the Hindi screenplay is just as good as the original, and Akshay praised the way it was adapted for a North Indian context without losing its emotional and uplifting heart. With the Hindi version, the producers hope to reach a wider audience and motivate young entrepreneurs, particularly those from remote towns and villages with few resources, to pursue their aspirations and passions.
Meanwhile, the original Soorarai Pottru created an indelible impression on audiences, and the Hindi filmmakers are hoping to receive the same affection and acclaim.
Soorarai Pottru tells the narrative of Suriya's character, Nedumaaran Rajangam, aka Maara, who sets out to make the average man fly and, in the process, takes on the world's most capital-intensive business with the support of his family, friends, and sheer willpower. The film was partly inspired by events in the life of Air Deccan founder Capt. GR Gopinath, and was released immediately on Amazon Prime Video in November 2020.
Earlier, while talking about the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru Suriya said in a statement that the outpouring of love and admiration for the film was extraordinary. He knew as soon as he heard this story that it had to be a pan-India film because that was at the heart of it. Thus, it brought him great pleasure to collaborate with Vikram Malhotra-led Abundantia Entertainment, to tell Captain Gopinath's inspiring narrative in Hindi.
The official announcement about Akshay Kumar being the lead is awaited.
