The director revealed that the film is going to be a family entertainer.
As per the latest reports, Rajkumar Santoshi approached Aamir Khan with a script a few years after the release of Shahid Kapoor's Phata Poster Nikla Hero (2013). The actor immediately nodded, and the director went to work on the script.
Santoshi, who recently wrapped Bad Boys starring Mithun Chakraborty's son Namashi and Amrin Qureshi, caught up with Aamir for a family dinner on his birthday (March 14). This meeting sparked conjecture that the two are planning to collaborate again after 28 years apart.
Santoshi told Mid Day that over the years, they have kept in touch. They talked about the movie when Aamir invited him over for a family meal. They all have a formal narrative coming up soon and then take a call. The filmmaker merely had a thought in mind seven years ago, which he told Aamir, who loved it.
Now that Santoshi has finished the script, he is going to sit down and tell the story. The filmmaker explains that it's a total family entertainer, though he remains tight-lipped about the film. But he's not going to say anything until he's finished reading the script.
While rumours abound that Santoshi and Khan are working on a sequel to Andaz Apna Apna Santoshi dismissed it by saying that the script for Andaz Apna Apna is in its early stages. His with Aamir is a one-man show.
Meanwhile, Aamir is currently working on one of his ambitious projects, Laal Singh Chaddha. In the Hindi remake of The Forrest Gump the star plays the titular role. The Hindi film's adapted screenplay was penned by Atul Kulkarni and directed by Advait Chandan.
Laal Singh Chaddha features Kareena Kapoor Khan as the female lead, Mona Singh as Aamir's onscreen mother, and Naga Chaitanya in an extended cameo appearance.
The film is slated for release on August 11, 2022.
